Child Writes Competition - More Information
DOES YOUR CHILD LOVE TO WRITE? LOVE TO DRAW?
One of the best ways to nurture a child with a talent for writing is to get them to share their work to a broader audience. Of course you are going to tell them what they write / what they draw is AMAZING, yet, the power of a passionate writer and a determined illustrator needs to come from their work being admired from afar!
We have created this competition where we nurture all the children involved. Every child receives a participation certificate. Sharing your writing or drawings to broader audience is daunting and we are immensely proud of any child who takes this first step!
Whilst the winners will be chosen from a pool of 500 entries, we believe each child should be acknowledged at the age and stage of development, so each term, we will choose a writer and a drawer to join the short list. Once the competition closes, they can resubmit if they believe their skills have improved and if indeed being a tad older and wiser has improved their skills.
Finally – to the winners. We support them like our own children. With gentle guidance, the winners, your son or daughter, will work through the development of a manuscript, through all the stages of writing, to the illustration planning and preparation – to book launch and beyond. The prize is unapologetically massive! It is a lot of work for the winner to get to publication and it is worth every moment (oh, and if you were sourcing this level of support, it would cost more than $1000 per child!)
The National Child Writes Competition is open to all primary-school aged child writers and illustrators. The judges will be looking for POTENTIAL, originality, creativity and character, as well as correct punctuation and grammar for writers and consistency of artistic skills for illustrators.
